Based on the research of Dr. Carey Yazeed, Black women are struggling both emotionally and physically in the workplace. Many do not feel safe, and are often afraid to share about their work experiences due to the fear of retaliation or experiencing negative consequences. Professional Black women lack community – a support system filled with other like minded women who understand their systemic induced pain and suffering. My goal is to create safe spaces where Black women can speak freely about their toxic work experiences; a space where they feel seen and heard.

Safe Spaces

Are you struggling in the workplace? Have you experienced bullyingdiscrimination, or retaliation at the hands of a supervisor? Have you attempted to speak up, only to be labeled angry or difficult to work with by your coworkers?

Consider joining one of my Safe Spaces, where professional Black Women gather to share their work experiences, while receiving validation and support. Safe Spaces offer Black women a healthy opportunity to exhale. Participants also learn about their rights as an employee, in addition to available activities and resources that can be utilized to protect them.

Upcoming Safe Spaces:

–Tuesday, September 17, 2024, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm ET

"Authentic Angela couldn't be more accurate. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Angela to offer the professional development webinar on "Mentors vs. Sponsors and Why You Need Both" to support Drexel Alumni. Angela thought of every detail: opening with energizing music to set the mood, offering quick polls to understand the audience, showcasing important resources and questions to ask yourself, and identifying the action items needed to get to the next step in your professional career. Angela shared her personal story of impact, both on the receiving end and giving end, which made it all the more enjoyable and impactful. Colleagues and peers admire Angela's poise and confidence, yet ability to make those in the room feel like they truly know Angela. I wholeheartedly recommend Angela's work in advancing others on their professional journey and advocating for underrepresented minorities to a pathway in leadership."

As a first-generation college graduate, I am committed to supporting the growth and development of college students with a passion for technology. In 2017, I established the Angela V. Harris Scholarship Fund within the College of Computing and Informatics at Drexel University, with a focus on African American students’ education.

Since the inception of the Angela V. Harris Scholarship, we have raised over $120,000. I invite you to join me in investing in the success of the next generation of leaders in the tech industry.
